Sexual harassment at work
Perhaps the most famous case of sexual harassment is tat of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, but, of course this case is not unique. A great deal of women is exposed to sexual harassment at work at least once in their lives.
Most of them silently endure similar abuse and, at best, retire. Of course, a woman may apply to the court and will probably win, but sometimes women prefer to hide it.
There is a myth that if a woman is exposed to dirty harassment and hints, it means that she has provoked it herself and that she likes it. That is why many women who have appeared in this situation, begin to feel a sense of guilt.
The second myth is that many men do it in order to attract attention, as they are unable to do it in a different way.
If a man is not insane he will be able to attract women's attention by all possible means except dirty allusions and offensive touch.
Sexual harassment in the public transport, at work, and in everyday life is rather a widespread phenomenon.
How should you behave to avoid it?
Control your behaviour. Pay attention to your words and actions, the way you communicate with your colleagues at work. Of course, light flirting is acceptable, but sometimes men take it as a guide for action. In this case you should at once that you don't want to go beyond the conventional flirting.
If you can do without any flirting, you'd better avoid flirting at all. Official communication is quite enough on-site.
If you like to wear open and shortened clothes, do not be surprised that you attract too much attention. Of course, it doesn't mean that you should dress as a nun. But your jobsite is another case. There you should stick to formal style of dress and be always ready to repulse.
If you allow a man to conduct impudently once and don't stop him, it will repeat all the time.
If you come across sexual harassment, act decisively!
Ignoring intimidation you won't be able to achieve anything; fear or hesitation may even aggravate the situation.
The violator often falls back upon sexual harassment to check the ability of a victim for resistance. If a woman does not respond to his actions or gives way to panic, he thinks that she will be totally unable to rebuff.
Therefore it is necessary to act decisively from the very beginning and not to stall for time. Let him see that you are dead set against his dirty actions and that are not afraid of him.
